NPCs and Captures

The welcome card of Agartha Mog or Die says Mog NPCs. Capture rivals. Empty plots on the suburban map literally print NO NPC PLACED. That sign is a progress flag, not decoration. This page is how NPC fights feed the tycoon half of the game, how captures sit on your pad, and why you should finish this loop before you treat players as content.

If you have not claimed a plot, use Getting Started. If you already want the compare math, use Mog Battles. This page is the capture economy.

Why NPCs exist

NPCs are the safe compare. They do not have friends on a ten-player server. They do not redeem Update2 behind a house and then challenge you. They teach whether your Face/Frame/Height/Bodyfat sheet has a hole. Lose to an NPC and the fix is how to grow, not a rematch macro.

They are also the bodies that make a plot look finished. A King run with an empty pad is a contradiction. Become Mog King assumes you already placed someone.

The empty-pad flag

NO NPC PLACED means the loop is incomplete. Walk, fight an NPC you outstat, win, then place the capture on the pad. If the sign stays after a win, you skipped the placement step — look for a plot prompt, not a street prompt. Do not mash the sign itself; it is a status label.

Placed NPCs are proof of work. They do not replace the Mog Upgrader. Buy EXP anyway. A pretty pad with no permanent ranks is still a wipe away from looking like a starter plot with mannequins.

SPARE, MOG, and placement

The same two buttons from player fights exist after NPC wins.

  • SPARE is for practice reps when you do not need a body.
  • MOG is for MogPoints and for captures when the design asks you to take them.

Use NPC MOGs as your currency farm until the Upgrader is comfortable. Use SPARE when you are testing a new sheet and do not want to think about placement yet. There is no public moral score. There is a pad that either looks finished or does not.

Player captures are the “rivals” half of the welcome line. Those are political. SPARE a beginner you beat by accident. MOG a rival who mogged you. Placement of player captures, when the client allows it, is a trophy. Trophies attract challenges. If you cannot defend the pad, do not decorate it with a person who has friends in the server list.

Training order

  1. Insure the plot (stat planner).
  2. Patch dump stats (stats tier list).
  3. Fight a weak NPC.
  4. Place the capture.
  5. Fight a stronger NPC.
  6. Only then look at players.

Skipping to step 6 is how 2x codes become donations. The how to play loop is this order with pickups inserted between fights.

What NPCs are not

They are not named raid bosses with published HP tables. We will not invent a roster of boss titles to fill space. They are not AFK training dummies you can script — the scripts hub has no verified auto-fight for this experience, and a ban is a worse wipe than a MOG. They are not a substitute for Water. If you beat NPCs and lose to players, your sheet has a hole the NPC did not press.

After a player wipe

Your captures and pad cosmetics follow whatever the current client persists. Your run stats do not. Tutorial 10/12 already told you the Upgrader stays. Rebuild the sheet, then check whether the pad still holds a body. If the sign flipped back to NO NPC PLACED, you get a free excuse to run the NPC loop again, which is the right recovery anyway.

NPCs are the quiet half of a loud game. Use them. A server full of people who only fight players is a server full of people about to quit after one screenshot. Fill the pad, then hunt.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for SUB5 players climbing toward Mog King.

What does NO NPC PLACED mean?

Your plot has no capture yet. Win an NPC fight and place them. It is a loop flag, not a bug.

Should I mog NPCs or spare them?

MOG when you need MogPoints or a body for the pad. SPARE when you are only testing the compare. See Mog Battles.

Do placed NPCs survive a wipe?

Plot upgrades do. Treat captures as bonus and the Upgrader as the truth. Rebuild with how to grow if the run dies.

Can I skip NPCs and only fight players?

You can. You will learn the compare by donating runs. NPC first is the how to play order.
